Immolation

Immolation (lat. = Opferung) sind eine Death Metal Band aus Yonkers, New York (USA). Sie waren zusammen mit Cannibal Corpse die erste Death Metal Band aus New York.

Die Band wurde 1986 unter dem Namen Rigor Mortis gegründet. Ende des Jahres 1987 benannte sie sich in Immolation um. Im Underground erlangte die Band bald Kultstatus. Für das Debütalbum hätte man einen Plattenvertrag bei Roadrunner Records unterzeichnen können, dieser wurde jedoch nicht verlängert. So dauerte es bis zur Veröffentlichung des zweiten offiziellen Albums fünf Jahre. Immolation konnte dann drei Alben über Metal Blade Records veröffentlichen. Aktuell ist die Band bei Century Media unter Vertrag.
